YouTube's War On Third Party Clients, May Prove Suicidal.
YouTube, since the beginning of the year, have stepped up measures, to stop third party clients from playing, downloading or watching its content. However, since many content providers, many of mine at least, share the identical content on other platforms, YouTube has been helping, to make itself, irrelevant. Indeed, all one has to do, to gain more insight on the matter, is just do a search, in one's favorite search engine, sans Google, with the words, “YouTube's War On Third Party Clients.”
I mentioned that observation on the Invidious Matrix and by extension, the Invidious IRC chat and there were at at least two or three low IQ mutts, who couldn't grasp that only Invidious, which ties itself exclusively to YouTube, is the only third party client that will eventually fall into extinction, with YouTube as this trend continues.
MPV the media player and YT-DLP the content download client, are versatile enough to work with many if not most video and audio sites, they're not exclusive to one bitter, evil, corporate, site. Which is good for the rest of us, who love our privacy and our choices. YouTube, it seems, may be it's greatest enemy yet. Since, by forcing many content providers, to seek other platforms, because of her censorship, she has allowed for the free dissemination of content, the same identical content, from identical providers, to be found in numerous places.
Thus, they have unwittingly, broken their monopolistic, stranglehold on gate keeping content. Thus, tools such as mpv and yt-dlp can be used to access that content, when YouTube puts up obstacles restricting the free movement from its own servers. Ultimately, making itself, irrelevant. Tragically, that realization, means, that my beloved Invidious, since it seems, permanently, wedded to YouTube, may become irrelevant as well.
